Sideline & Competitive Cheer

Program Overview

Our Sideline and Competitive Cheer Program provides young athletes the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of cheerleading and stunting while supporting our football teams in a fun, energetic, and team-oriented environment. Following Hometown Football League and MHSAA guidelines, the program emphasizes teamwork, confidence, school spirit, and age-appropriate skill development.

Sideline Cheer is designed for participants of all experience levels and focuses on building a strong foundation in cheer basics while creating a positive and inclusive experience.

Competitive Cheer focuses on performance skills, teamwork, and preparing a routine to present on the competition floor. Competition takes place in October, at a location that is to be determined.

Age Divisions

The Sideline Cheer Program is organized by age to align with football divisions and ensure appropriate instruction. Teams are organized according to age as of July 1st.

  • Flag Division - Introduction to cheer, focusing on basic cheer techniques, chants, and light tumbling. Available to ages 5-6.
  • Freshman Division – The first level of traditional tackle football. Available to ages 7-8.
  • Junior Varsity Division – Focuses on advancing fundamental skills, game strategy, and discipline. Available to ages 9-10
  • Varsity Division – Final division before ending middle school program. Available to ages 11-12.

Program Focus & Development

Sideline Cheer emphasizes development, participation, and confidence-building. Athletes will learn:

  • Basic cheer motions and terminology
  • Age-appropriate chants and cheers
  • Sideline formations and game-day etiquette

All routines and activities are designed to be non-competitive, focusing on learning rather than performance rankings.

Competitive Cheer emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and performance preparation. Athletes will learn:

  • Choreographed routines set to music
  • Age-appropriate stunts, jumps, and (when applicable) tumbling progressions
  • Proper technique, timing, and formations
  • Safe spotting, stunt execution, and performance etiquette
  • Teamwork, discipline, and confidence under pressure

Preparation is structured and safety-focused, with consistent practice attendance required to keep athletes and teammates safe.

Coaches & Volunteers

Our Sideline Cheer teams are led by volunteer coaches who are committed to providing a positive and encouraging experience. Parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer as cheer coaches or team parents to support the program.
