FLAG FOOTBALL

Program Overview

Our Flag Football Program introduces young athletes to the game of football in a fun, fast-paced, and non-contact environment. Designed specifically for player development and safety, flag football focuses on fundamental skills, teamwork, and confidence-building while eliminating tackling.

This program follows Richmond Youth Football guidelines and is ideal for new players as well as athletes looking to build a strong foundation before advancing to tackle football.


Age Divisions

Flag football teams organized according to age as of July 1st. Athletes are invited to attend a skills assessment prior to the season beginning which aids coaches in evenly distributing teams. Once teams are drafted, you will be contacted by your coach or team parent with additional details.



Player Development Philosophy

Our flag football program is built around teaching the game the right way. We prioritize:

  • Learning proper football fundamentals (throwing, catching, route running, defense)
  • Equal participation for players
  • Encouraging teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship
  • Building confidence and a love for the game


Games and practices are structured to maximize player involvement and development rather than focusing solely on competition.



Coaching & Volunteers

All RYFC teams are led by dedicated parent volunteers and supported by RYFC board members. Parents and guardians are encouraged to get involved as coaches, team parents, or support staff. Each team includes a team parent and 2 coaches.



Practice & Game Schedule

  • Practices: Typically held 2 times per week, based on coaches set schedule.
  • Games: Played each Saturday at 9am.


Practice locations, times, and game schedules will be shared once teams are formed. Schedules may be adjusted due to weather or field availability.



Equipment

While the RYFC program may provide a majority of needed equipment, families may be asked to supply additional items.


Provided by the Program:

  • Flag belts
  • Game jersey
  • Game Socks


Required from Families:

  • Mouthguard (no tether needed)
  • Athletic shoes or football cleats (no metal spikes)
  • Comfortable athletic clothing for practices, and shorts/pants for games.


No helmets or pads are required for flag football.



Registration Information

Registration is completed online and includes league fees, field use, officials, jerseys, and administrative costs.

  • Early registration is recommended to assist with team formation
  • Late registration may be accepted if space is available
  • Financial assistance or payment plans may be offered

Code of Conduct

All players, coaches, and spectators are expected to uphold standards of sportsmanship and respect. Unsportsmanlike behavior, including verbal abuse of officials, coaches, or players, will not be tolerated. Our goal is to provide a positive environment where athletes can learn, grow, and enjoy the game. You will be asked to review and approve a parent and player code of conduct during registration.
